| 24th February 2012 - Inver Croft, Achnasheen A few brave souls headed all the way up to Inver Croft this weekend, most people being scared off by the less than perfect weather forecast. Softies ! Most of us made it up in time for a pint at the Ledgowan Lodge Hotel. And very nice it was too. I'd only ever been in the bar once before, one dreich November. That time it was empty and freezing cold. With the barman huddling over a single bar fire. This weekend, the whole hotel was open, with roaring open fires, plenty of guests, and jolly pleasant Kronenburg on draught. All rather grand, a shame to leave it in fact ! But, after a couple of pints, leave we did & off down to our less salubrious hut. Having survived the walkway, we opened up the hut and got our own fire started. Then got down to the business of setting the world to rights over a beer. Having acheived that, it was off to bed. Disappointingly, the weather in the morning was every bit as bad as the forecast. Ho-hum. However, it's a long way to drive up there, so we all set off to do something or other. Calum & Ken braved a strong headwind & driving rain, biking in from near Grudie to Fannich Lodge. By the time they'd reached the lodge, the rain had actually stoped. They headed up Meall Gorm & An Coileachan, Calum edging ever closer to finishing his Munros. The cloud was off the tops all day, it turned into a pretty nice day, if windy. Meanwhile, Dan drove Colin down Glen Carron to Craig. Colin biked in to climb Sgurr na Feartaig and Beinn Tarsuinn. Dan went for a wee wander up the side glen. Having finished his walk, Dan then drove back to the hut. Later on, Colin biked back to the hut. (This was their original plan - they didn't fall out or anything !) Lorna & Tara decided the weather was suitable for a walk up Little Wyvis. Being a community minded soul, and not wanting to get cold, she continued on to civilisation and came back with a huge bag of coal. So, we had a massive roaring fire in the hut on Saturday. And I mean massive ! On Sunday, Calum & Ken biked up the vague (and wet) path south east of the hut, beside Carn Mhartuin. I'd classify it as quite good, but not really recommended. Lorna went to Loch Glascarnoch & climbed Beinn Liath Mhor a'Ghuiblais Li. Colin climbed the obvious hill (turns out it's 2 hills) on the south as you drive away from the hut, Sgurr a Ghlas Leathaid and Sgurr a'Mhuillin. To summarise, a good meet. The weather turned out much better than had been feared. Oh, and there's an awfy lot of Corbett bagging going on just now ! Click here for some pictures.
