10th April 2009 - Milehouse, Kincraig

Not the best attended meet for an Easter weekend, with the promise of some decent bank holiday weather. However, those who did turn up reported that the price of beer is much more reasonable at the Loch Insh centre bar, than the Onich Hotel, a mere £2.80 for Tennants.

The highlight of the conversation on Friday night was Gordon's assertion that there are iron filings in Corn Flakes ?!?!?. Apparently, if you scrunch Corn Flakes up, dissolve them in milk, and hold a magnet underneath the bowl, when you pour them away, there will be iron filings left. Seems unlikely, but if anyone actually tries it, let me know how it goes.

Saturday morning was glorious, if a little breezy. Rab, Gordon & Andy drove down Glen Feshie and walked to Monadh Mor and Beinn Bhrotain, definitely a big day out. On returning to the hut, Gordon said "I think we walked to Fife & back." Calum, Fiona & Ken biked from the hut down Glen Feshie, then on the track south west, past Lochan an't Sluie. They got to about 650m before dumping the bikes, and carrying on to the top of the Corbett Leathad an Taobhain. Great views all around on the summit, and then a speedy descent back to the hut.

The highlight of the conversation on Saturday night was fishing. Marginally better than gardening, but must do better.

Continuing with the biking theme, Calum, Fiona & Ken went all the way down Glen Einich to Loch Einich. They were quite the thing with their posh mountain bikes. Although perhaps a little abashed when they were overtaken by 3 middle aged ladies on folding bikes (see below). Nonetheless, it's a great bike ride up the glen, with lots of streams to splash through. And some much wider rivers to cross. None of them had dry feet by the time they got back !

The others headed home via a sunny Dunkeld.

The bike ride up Glen Einich. Fantastic.

Real mountain biker. Rad to the power maxxx.

Fiona wisely elects not to ride across this stream.
