18th December 2009 - Blackrock Cottage, Glen Coe

At John Kay's Blackrock meet we had 20 people on the Saturday night, for the record, John is the 17th president.

Grant and Kevin went up to Blackrock on the Thursday night. On Friday, they climbed Beinn Sgulaird. But more importantly, they had bought up two barrels of beer, which had to be left to settle. The first of these was a fine barrel of Clydesdale - a perfect clear pint of beer. We did not finish this on Friday night, we left 5 pints for Saturday.

Saturday's barrel was trashy blonde in my opinion, not such a good pint. But people seem to drink it anyway.

There was some activity on Saturday, Chris got up and went home. David and Lucy arrived at Blackrock and climbed Meall a' Bhuiridh on skis.

Robert and Ally went to Ben Nevis and had an epic involving snow, avalanches, and fear. But the real expedition was led by Adrian to the Glencoe visitor centre, where tea and coffee was bravely consumed.

The evening went well. David had managed to find a ladies pleasure device beginning with a D ... he claimed that he found it at the ticket office of the ski lift !! Lucy was later heard to comment the evening would not have been the same without it? But it was amazing when put on the floor and switched on who it pointed at ?

I believe the fascination caused by this device could cause some serious doubts about the Braes'o'Fife and their suitability to take young people such as Grant onto the mountain. Not sure what the constitutional position is in this regard.

At nine o'clock, John Kay produced two bottles of malt whisky. That's correct two bottles. And the new president took office. The evening proceeded in the normal fashion with Ally and Grant upholding the club's reputation (?) and John doing his bit by not getting to bed at all.

The Sunday morning was snow and sunshine, in spite of which not much was done. Some feeble attempts at skiing and local walks were the best efforts. But mostly it was speculation about what had happened to the "pleasure device", which had disappeared some time in the morning ...

Some people stayed over for Monday and did some excellent mountaineering.

All the traditions of the Blackrock meet were therefore upheld - another excellent meet.
