5th October 2007 – Glen Lichd House, Kintail

Attendees: Robert McMurray, Michael Johnston, Colin Black and Helga Van Rumpstein

Rab, Mike and new boy Colin made the long trek north to Glen Lichd House at the weekend. After a long drive under a starry sky, the ‘Kintail Curtain’, being true to form, heralded spitting rain on our arrival at the pub.

After a quick pint, the intrepid trio packed and re-packed (and packed again) and began the cycle in to the hut. A note for any future parties contemplating the weekend, bikes are indeed the way to go. Having walked in on a previous occasion I can wholeheartedly recommend this much faster approach.

Given that Colin managed to lug 20 cans of lager the whole 7 kilometres to the hut I believe we should all wholeheartedly endorse his application for membership. Due the obvious importance of the beer, his food was left on the outside of his rucksack, which also meant for a few less supplies than intended over the weekend!

Saturday morning started damp although the weather cleared as the day went on. The trio headed up onto the ‘Five Sisters’ via the steep and long East Ridge of Sgurr Fhuaran (a superb peak). A traverse of the remaining ‘Five Sisters’ ridge was undertaken in gradually improving weather until a quick descent to Glen Lichd was made near to the bealach between Sgurr na Spanteach and Saileag. A superb day out!

A riotous evening then ensued around the fire. The previous occupants being kind enough to leave copious amounts of fuel. Whilst the wine, beer, music and bouldering (!) made for enough entertainment, the arrival of ‘Helga’ late on was undoubtedly the highlight.

Despite a better start to the day on Sunday, the team were only lazy enough to clean the hut and cycle out. A visit to the chippie deemed energetic enough for the Sabbath.

Most used quote of the weekend: “Colin, they aren’t always like this, honestly!”. The question remains however, has he seen enough!?
