14th December 2007 - Blackrock Cottage, Glen Coe

Music, beer, a new president, and even some mountaineering, made for an excellent Blackrock meet, and a suitable end to the year. The Friday night was spent trying to come up with a way of attaching the beer barrel to a solid table. After much debate, a solution was arrived at, and it was left to settle.

Saturday dawned fine, and you have to go out in the hills on a day like that, really. After much debate about what gear to take, Chris & Ken did Curved Ridge. They needn't have worried, the ridge was bone dry, even quite warm in places. They did, however, pick up a stray climber half way up the route. He seemed a bit lost, so it would have been rude not to. Neil & Ronnie did Stob Gobhar. Dave M, Lucy & Dave B did Meall a'Bhuiridh, out-performing Dan, Colin, Adrian & Gordon, who only managed the small hill next to the top of the chairlift. At least they didn't completely shame themselves by taking the chair up. It was closed. Rab did Creise & Meall a' Bhuiridh. Gav & Ally headed down the glen and completed the Ballachulish horseshoe. Kevin & Sheila set off to do Sgurr na h'Uhlaidh. John went running, presumably a long way !

On the Saturday night, the beer was deemed drinkable. And the pint glasses liberated from local hostelries were filled. The beer this year was about 6%, called Satan's Skullcrusher or something. Needless to say it was Colin's choice. It went down surprisingly well and didn't even give much of a hangover. Various folks blasted out their favourites on the guitar. And then it was time for Robert to accept the presidential tankard from Neil. Thanks are due to Neil for all his efforts as president, he is now free to retire and start to come to terms with the fact that he's just one of us proles again. Robert, however, has 2 years of glory ahead. Added to that, he must be the youngest ever president ?

Memory fades at this point. I think there was a lengthy discussion about the density of oxygen in air at high altitudes. Although it could have been about the best way to blow up a balloon. In any case, no conclusion was reached !

As ever, no-one did much of anything on the Sunday.

See you all next year !
