21st January 2006 - Manse Barn

Club members headed off to Onich hoping that the thaw through the previous week had left some snow on the hills. It had, although it'll not be there much longer given the prevailing warm temperatures. Colin & Rab went to Ben Nevis, via an almost deserted North Face car park, and climbed Castle Ridge - it was good value for a grade III ! Ken & Monica slowly made their way to Stob Coire Nan Lochain, and climbed Boomerang Gully. It was something of a soggy snow plod, with a couple of mixed steps. However, it gave Monica her first experience of the top end of the rope in winter (see pic). Chris, Kath and Matt also went to SCNL, and continued up to the summit. They descended via Broad Gully, including a non-practice ice axe arrest from Kath. It is hoped that this is the first time a 5 month pregnant club member has had to save themselves in this manner. And the last !
