25th August 2006 - Inbhirfhaolain

Unfortunately, Inbhirfhaolain wasn’t to be as well attended as in recent years. The weather dictated that. Notwithstanding, Rab, Dave and Colin ventured forth (or should that be west) on the annual pilgrimage. Friday turned into a late night - 4.30 in fact - which didn’t bode well for the following morning …

Saturday was wet, well very wet, though all three (eventually) managed assaults on the hill. The ‘A’ team consisted of Dave and Colin and an ascent of Beinn nan Aighenan, whereby the ‘B’ team consisted of, well me, with an ascent of Beinn Fhionnlaidh. Mention should be made of the slight navigational error which saw me scale the north side of ‘the BF’ (get it !?) rather that the south. Anyway, enough about that. Suffice to say we were all very wet by the end of the day.

Sunday morning saw us go to bed at 7.30 so an alpine start it definitely wasn’t to be. Eventually though, we did manage to surface, clean the hut and wobble up Beinn Mhic Chasgaig in reasonably good weather (for the first two hours at least).

Sometimes the quiet weekends can be the best. A whole hut to yourself. Nobody to annoy. Loud music wailing. But wait a minute, isn’t it a Meet Secretary's prerogative to complain about low attendance? Hypocrite I hear you say. Well, aren’t we all are to some extent ?
